Fritillaria 'Rubra'

2L Plant

Fritillaria 'Rubra' commonly known as the Red Fritillary or Crown Imperial 'Rubra' is a stunning and distinctive spring-flowering bulbous plant. These flowers are typically a striking reddish-orange to reddish-brown colour, although the exact shade can vary among individual plants. The flowers hang downward from the stem, and their shape resembles a crown, giving rise to the common name "Crown Imperial." These plants are relatively tall, with mature stems reaching heights of about 3 feet (90 centimetres) or more so are often used as focal points in garden beds, borders, and formal gardens. They can also be planted in groups for a more dramatic effect. Their unique and eye-catching appearance makes them a conversation piece in the garden.

What am I Buying?

2L (2 Litres) refers to the volume of the pot, the roots are almost 4 times the size of a 9cm pot. The size of the plant can vary greatly, most will be between 30-60cm tall unless they are naturally low growing plants or if you are buying herbaceous plants in winter.

Bulbs are a form of dormant plant which when planted in the correct conditions produce a full plant over time. Plants which naturally survive as bulbs will usually die down into the ground when their season is finished in order to store their energy to return the following year.
