WHAT AM I BUYING?

Plug plants are small plants or seedlings grown in cell trays. Our large plugs are some of the largest on the market with a flat cell shape that allows us to pack them in large letter boxes. The larger root system of the large plugs makes them much easier to establish than smaller plug plants giving you the benefit of cost efficiency without the additional care required for small plugs. For further guidance on plug care please refer to the instructions below:

PLUG CARE:

While these garden-ready large plugs are capable of being planted directly into prepared ground or a larger pot it is still VITAL that you refrain from watering too often; a daily watering regime can stunt or kill a small plant just as easily as not watering at all. For slow-growing plants or if you are not confident with caring for small plants we recommend first potting into a small pot roughly the size of a tea mug (9cm pots are commonly used). Make sure you use a growing media that drains well. Allow the plant roots to fill the pot before potting on to larger pots or open ground.

What are you buying?

Plug plants are small, young plants grown in cell trays. Even the largest plug plants, described as extra-large or jumbo, are still small plants from cell trays and not established plants. Plug plants can be great value compared to buying more established plants however they may need some extra care to get them started.

Caring for Plug Plants

We recommend starting plug plants in a small pot and not planting directly into open ground or large pots/planters. You will want a plant pot roughly the size of a tea mug, commonly referred to as 7cm or 9cm pots. Ensure the pot has plenty of holes underneath and preferably over two tiers for even better drainage.

Reduced Plastics

In order to lessen our environmental impact, all of our plants will be removed from their plastic cell trays or pots before sending. Ensure you are ready to pot your plants when they arrive.
